Anna Johnson was a junior at Wesleyan University in Connecticut when she got interested in early childhood education — and, more specifically, how research in the field translates into policy.
The more she read about the subject, the more she encountered one name: Jeanne Brooks-Gunn, of Teachers College, the founding director of the National Center for Children and Families (NCCF). So, Johnson recalls, she sent Brooks-Gunn an email.
“I said, ‘I’m only a junior in college, and I know I want to work when I graduate. But sometime in the next decade, I will probably find my way to you.'”
